Icon on Taylor
Festive colored lights hang over the famous Mario’s Italian Lemonade stand and reflect on the passing automobiles creating a decorative playful pattern in Icon on Taylor Street. It is reminiscent of the Ashcan School of American Art, especially John French Sloan and Everett Shinn. Icon on Taylor is a contemporary genre subject painted in Cheney’s unique Postmodern Impressionist style. It is part of Postmodern Impressions, an exhibition of paintings, drawings, and limited edition graphics at the famed Atlas Galleries on Chicago’s North Michigan Avenue. This work explores the unique character of the contemporary city, and its people.
